Q1. Do I have to have my tummy tuck surgery in the hospital? Do I have to spend the night?
Answer: No. You can have your tummy tuck surgery in Dr. Davidson’s fully accredited on-site surgery suite (operating room). You can go home the very same day.
Q2. How long does it take to recover from tummy tuck surgery?
Answer: Recovery varies from person to person, but most people can be back at work in 2 or 3 weeks with full healing in 4-6 weeks.
Q3. Will I have a scar?
Answer: Yes. The length of the scar depends on how much extra skin you have. The scar is generally located low enough to be hidden by a bikini or underwear.
Q4. Will a tummy tuck get rid of all of my stretch marks?
Answer: A tummy tuck generally removes stretch marks between the top of the belly button and the pubic area.
Q5. Can liposuction be performed at the same time as a tummy tuck?
Answer: Many people choose to have some back, flank ("love handles"), or thigh liposuction in conjunction with a tummy tuck to have their lower body in better proportion with their new waistline.
Q6. Can a tummy tuck be performed at the same time as other surgical procedures?
Answer: In many cases, yes. For example, a tummy tuck can be performed at the same time as a hernia operation or hysterectomy.
Q7. Does insurance cover the cost of a tummy tuck?
Answer: Insurance generally pays for "medically necessary" procedures, and in most cases, a cosmetic tummy tuck does not qualify. The majority of plastic surgery services are private pay. Financing is available for cosmetic tummy tucks through CareCredit and Chase Health Finance.
Q8. What is the cost of a tummy tuck consultation?
Answer: The fee for a tummy tuck consultation is $125, and that $125 is deducted from the cost of your procedure.
Q9. Do you tighten the abdominal (stomach) muscles?
Answer: Yes, the abdominal muscles are almost always tightened during a tummy tuck. With a mini tummy tuck, the abdominal muscles are not tightened.
Q10. Do I need anesthesia?
Answer: A tummy tuck is usually performed under general anesthesia where you are completely asleep. A board-certified anesthesiologist who is present during the procedure, administers the anesthesia and monitors you and your vital signs throughout.
